ABOUT THE CLASS

Eat! Drink! Savor! Labor! is a multi-media magazine created by Oberlin College & Conservatory students enrolled in the StudioOC class –  Eat! Drink! Savor! Labor!.  Taught by Oberlin’s French and Sociology departments, this class draws from the emerging field of “food studies” to combine French food philosophies with sociological theories of community space-making.

Makers, Shakers, and Entrepreneurs

Throughout the class, students explored food’s cultural and sociological dimensions through films and field trips. Students met with local entrepreneurs and community organizers who use food and drink to broaden access to cuisine, create community events and spaces, and leverage their work for social justice. The StudioOC learning community included field trips that introduced students to the cultural and culinary resources of the greater Cleveland area.
